A CT scan,[1] also known as computed tomography scan, and formerly known as a computerized axial tomography scan or CAT scan,[3] makes use of computer-processed combinations of many X-ray measurements taken from different angles to produce cross-sectional (tomographic) images (virtual “slices”) of specific areas of a scanned object, allowing the user to see inside the object without cutting.

Digital geometry processing is used to further generate a three-dimensional volume of the inside of the object from a large series of two-dimensional radiographic images taken around a single axis of rotation.[4] Medical imaging is the most common application of X-ray CT. Reflection is the change in direction of a wavefront at an interface between two different media so that the wavefront returns into the medium from which it originated.
